FINISHER’S PRIZE — ALUMINUM BOTTLES (NEW IN 2013)
All 50 mile finishers will receive a very nice Pineland aluminum water bottle pre-filled with cold water, a large cow bell, a “50 Mile Finisher” glass mug, and a special piece of gear from Merrell.
TEAM PRIZES — (NEW IN 2013)
A team prize will be awarded in the 50 mile race to the first place team in each of three (3) divisions — All Male, All Female, and Mixed. A team consists of 4 runners registered under the same team name in the same race. Team names can be fun and creative — they can be something other than a club name. The first place team is defined as the fastest combined time of the 4 team members.
When you register online you’ll be able to select a name from a list if one of your teammates already registered the team name. If you’re the first person in the team to register then you can be the one to register the team name. Please check the list first. Contact The Race Director if you already registered and want to be added to a team.
COURSE
Participants in the 50 mile race will complete a 3.5 mile loop, then 3 laps of the 25km course. The race course is a 25 kilometer off-road roller coaster on well-maintained XC trails that twist, turn, and roll their way through forests and across pastoral, working farmland. The trails are level, wide (12′), and non-technical with no roots or rocks, but very hilly. Although there are no major climbs the rolling terrain is unrelenting. The surface of the trails is mainly grass and dirt sprinkled with pine needles, pine cones, twigs, and small stones. From time to time runners will be directed off the main trail system and into fields. In the fields the course will follow a path cut by local farmers using their haying equipment. The grass is rough and can vary in height in different places. Some of the cut grass may still be on the path making running more difficult. There are no stream crossings on the course per-se, however, the grass in the fields can be very wet in the morning, and there may be wet and muddy spots if it rains just before the race. The paths in the fields are often not level, tilting severely in all directions. Trail running shoes are not necessary, but they are recommended.

CUT-OFF TIMES
50 mile runners must reach the “Final Mile Aid Station” by the following times or they will be removed from the race:
33.5 miles 2:30 pm (8.5 hours)
44.5 miles 5:30 pm (11.5 hours)
13 hour time limit to complete the race
AID STATIONS
Four aid stations are located on the course. Runners will pass by an aid stations more than once (effectively 8 aid stations per 25k loop) giving them the opportunity to refuel every 2 to 3 miles. Each aid stations will be stocked with the following supplies: cold water, an electrolyte-replacement drink, cola, ice, gummy bears, Oreos, chips, pretzels, potatoes and salt, PB&J sandwiches, M&Ms, candy orange slices, oranges, and bananas. Please dispose of all cups and wrappers in the barrels supplied at the aid stations. Do not throw anything on the trail or in the field. Anyone caught littering will be disqualified from the race!
Runner’s Choice Award
Each of our 4 aid stations will be staffed by enthusiastic volunteers from different non-profit organizations that support youth activities. Each group will create a theme for their aid station; and, they will be competing for a cash prize given to the best aid station as determined by you, the runner. After the race please go to the results boards and vote for your favorite aid station.
DROP BAGS
Runners may submit their Drop Bags during registration, and a staff person or volunteer will deliver them to the “Final Mile Aid Station”. Drop Bags should be clearly marked with the runner’s name. Runners will pass the drop bag location at approximately 10 miles into each 25k lap and then again near the end of each lap. 50 mile runners will pass the drop bag location 6 times during the race (13.5, 18, 29, 33.5, 44.5, 49 miles). The “Final Mile Aid Station” is a short (5 minute) walk from the start/finish area and runners may place drop bags at this location themselves.
PACERS
Pacers will be allowed for 50 mile runners at any point during their 3rd (final) 25k lap, but not before then. No muling (pacers carrying runner’s gear). No aid or assistance may be given to a runner other than at designated aid stations. Race officials have the right to disqualify anyone not abiding by this rule.

SHIRTS
Race shirts are not included in the entry fee. This allows us to keep the entry fee low and gives people the freedom to choose. We take a great deal of pride in the quality and design of our shirts. Our short sleeve technical race shirts are made by Merrell. We offer both men’s and women’s sizes. There are 4 different designs associated with different races: 1) 5k & 10k races, 2) 5k Canicross, 3) Barefoot 5k, and 4) 25k, 50k, and 50mile races. If you order a shirt you will receive one with the design associated with your race. If you register for more than one race you may order more than one shirt. You must order your shirts by 5/5/13 to be guaranteed a specific size. At registration you will be given the size that you ordered. Substitutes will only be allowed after the race starts if there are extra shirts available. You will forfeit your shirt if you do not claim it by the time the race starts.
