FINISHER’S PRIZE — ALUMINUM BOTTLES (NEW IN 2013)
All 5km finishers will receive a very nice Pineland aluminum water bottle pre-filled with cold water when they cross the finish line.
COURSE
The race course is a 5 kilometer off-road roller coaster on well-maintained XC trails that twist, turn, and roll their way through forests and past pastoral, working farmland. The trails are level, wide (12′), and non-technical with no roots or rocks, but very hilly. Although there are no major climbs the rolling terrain is unrelenting. The surface of the trails is mainly grass and dirt sprinkled with pine needles, pine cones, twigs, and small stones. Trail running shoes are recommended but not necessary.

RULES
Runner and dog must be attached at all times during the race. We highly recommend that participants use a waist-belt, cani-x line and harness. Running with dogs on a leash (hand held) is permitted provided that the dog is wearing a comfortable harness, and the point of attachment on the harness itself and not pulling from the dog’s collar. Limit of one dog per runner, we do not offer a multi-dog race category.
No dogs are allowed on Pineland Farms property except for those participating in the canicross. Owners must cleanup after their dogs. All dogs must be under strict voice control, or be on a leash, before and after the race. Before and after the race dogs are only permitted in the Grove start/finish area. Dogs are not permitted on the trails or in any other area on the campus.
Please abide by these rules or we may not be allowed to host this wonderful event again.
WARNING
The outside temperature can reach the 80s at this time of year, potentially exposing dogs to heat stroke. Owners must ensure that their dogs are adequately trained for a 5km race. They must keep their dogs well hydrated before and after the race.
AID STATION
Runners will pass by an aid station twice on the course. The aid station will be stocked with cold water and an electrolyte-replacement drink. There will also be bowls of water for the dogs. Please dispose of all cups and wrappers in the garbage barrels supplied at the aid station. Anyone caught littering by throwing anything in a field or on the trail away from an aid station will be disqualified from the race!
There will also be an aid station for the dogs at the finish line. Buckets of water will be provided so that runners can sponge their dogs down. Ice will also be available in the food tent in case of an emergency.
PORTABLE TOILETS
There will be portable toilets on the course near the aid station and at the start/finish line.
SHIRTS
Race shirts are not included in the entry fee. This allows us to keep the entry fee low and gives people the freedom to choose. We take a great deal of pride in the quality and design of our shirts. Our short sleeve technical race shirts are made by Merrell. We offer both men’s and women’s sizes. There are 4 different designs associated with different races: 1) 5k & 10k races, 2) 5k Canicross, 3) Barefoot 5k, and 4) 25k, 50k, and 50mile races. If you order a shirt you will receive one with the design associated with your race. If you register for more than one race you may order more than one shirt. You must order your shirts by 5/5/13 to be guaranteed a specific size. At registration you will be given the size that you ordered. Substitutes will only be allowed after the race starts if there are extra shirts available. You will forfeit your shirt if you do not claim it by the time the race starts. Shirts will not be mailed after the race.
Shirts will be distributed at registration during the following times:
Friday, May24th 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the Maine Running Company Store located at 563 Forest Ave in Portland, Maine
